1.) Sign up with Chexpert, pay a one-time set-up fee of $24.95, and a letter of authorization is sent to your bank instructing them to forward returned checks to Chexpert for processing.  We send you stickers to post at the point of sale.  This is all that is required under NACHA rules to debit a customer's account for the face amount of the check.

State law sets the amount of the fee and NACHA rules and Regulation E govern the EFT debit  for the processing fee.  We are not required to use electronic methods for recovering the fee.  However, your cooperation in obtaining your customers' express authorization for the fee allows us to recovery our fee electronically, and ultimately that means you get your money faster.

There are five methods to choose from:  1) a check cashing card or log system whereby the customer signs a card one time with the authorization language on it; or 2) a stamp containing the authorization language stamped on each check with the check writer signing at the point of sale; or 3) a register generated authorization language with the customer signing at the point of sale; or 4) subsequent authorization whereby Chexpert sends a letter to the check writer giving him or her the opportunity to call, fax or mail in their express authorization; or 5) use of a global authorization network which is a co-op of RCK processors with check writers in their data bases having previously authorized the EFT debit for the processing fee at another store.  This last system is keyed to checking account numbers and therefore only works with those using our check verification system.

In cases where express authorization to debit for the fee is not obtained, we use letters to recover the fee amount.  If you have any questions on what to do or how to implement this, please call Mark Piland direct at 817-579-0207.

2.) When Chexpert receives an NSF check, the check is scanned and entered into our database for electronic re-presentment.
3.) Typically within three days, we notify our clients by e-mail of their returned checks, allowing them to make necessary adjustments to their records. (Note: If it is an extra large check for the business, we will call the client immediately.)
4.) Going one step further than our competitors, Chexpert Basicsm service mails a letter to the check writer to inform them of the re-presentment of the face amount and afford them the opportunity to immediately deposit funds to cover the processing fee. This extra step allows the check writer (your customer) to avoid additional bank charges in the event the funds are not available when we debit the account.
5.) If we are unable to recover the funds by electronic re-presentment, and our client has chosen to use our Free Chexpert Plussm service, we will recover the funds through letters in about half the states, and in the tough cases we will use attorney collections for secondary collection. This will continue the collection effort with no intervention required on your part.
6.) Upon full recovery of your money, funds will be disbursed based upon your selection in the Service Agreement. Your choices include weekly, bi-weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly disbursements through the ACH system.
7.) If Chexpert receives a returned check that is marked "Closed Account," or "Stop Payment," we cannnot process those items electronically and will follow your desires for these items. Chexpert highly recommends selecting the Free Chexpert Plus option. With that option, we can forward the check information on to the secondary collection law firm on your behalf.
8.) Any checks that are determined to be "Forgeries" will be retained as evidence and made available to appropriate law enforcement officials.
9.) Chexpert keeps our customers informed throughout the entire electronic process with timely reports that can be e-mailed or viewed 24/7 on a secure section of our website by using the personal access code provided to our clients.
